In Germany, if your parents are from a poor/working class background, it is three times less likely you'll be send to a grammar school than it is for children of affluent, educated parents even for students of the same aptitude. This is an untenable situation and still, I have yet to witness an integrated system that works well and does not result in an education buffet that mostly caters to the lowest denominator.

Reasons for the tripartite system: "The machine needs three classes of people: those who operate it, those who build and repair it, and those who design it." Creepy AF. And I'm not even unilaterally opposed to it, but its history scares me.
