Took a while but the book has now caught my interest!

"After not speaking to Lizzy for so long, sitting in her car felt like returning to a childhood playground. It was familiar, but also somehow smaller and less colorful than I remember." I had a similar experience with a childhood friend. We didn't really speak for years, and then we hung out one night for some reason, and it was just...different. Couldn't go back.
