This was obviously well researched, but it just felt so performative and too on the nose. If you're going to write a fictional story that includes social commentary, at least make me think about it and don't just hand it to me on a silver platter. That being said, I liked the general concept.

“He put men in charge of reproduction. Do you understand? That is too much power for any one group.”
It’s scary how close we (the US) are getting to this reality.

I’m getting “Promising Young Woman” vibes from this book..only with a convoluted time travel element. In enjoying one of the characters chapters, but the other chapters that aren’t narrated by her are a bit of a slog.

Bleh, this book is getting too convoluted. A character from 2022 and one from 500 years in the future are both in 1893 visiting a character from that era. I don’t understand how the time travel rules work.

So many people can time travel and people from the past are aware of travelers and you can be traveling to the past where other travels are also visiting but you don’t always know who’s from the same timeline…not gonna lie, I’m a little confused

It's moving along. I'm not uninterested, that's for sure. Still in the initial cloud phase of the ignorant reader. It looks though, as if I might finally have found something to read.

Just read a chapter with a fake research proposal and man does that make me feel good about my own science writing. I could tolerate this book until I started A little life again, the juxtaposition (I hate this word) between the two just make it so much worse

"After not speaking to Lizzy for so long, sitting in her car felt like returning to a childhood playground. It was familiar, but also somehow smaller and less colorful than I remember." I had a similar experience with a childhood friend. We didn't really speak for years, and then we hung out one night for some reason, and it was just...different. Couldn't go back.
