Spend consciously and consider your life energy used to make that purchase. Frugality is just finding good value in simplicity.

Align your spending with your values and purpose. Consider if this cost is worth all of the hours and energy it took to afford it.

Time is your most valuable resource. You can choose to spend your time living and experiencing life on this beautiful planet with loved ones or working for a dollar which holds limited value.

Frugality is enjoying the virtue of getting good value for every minute of your life energy and from everything you have the use of.
Waste lies not in the number of possessions but in the failure to enjoy them.

So freaking preachy. But I love the way the book feels 😂 I have put this down. To read I will teach you to be rich. I pulled maybe one good bit of info from this book so far. I will finish it eventually in case there are any other good tidbits. Honestly this book gives me imagery of an old lady in a silk Mumu with blue order hair waving incense everywhere and giving you mostly out of touch advice.

I read this book what feels like a million years ago when I was 19, and am so excited to read it again to see what my take on it is at this point in my life in my mid-40s

"People don’t need enormous cars, they need respect. They don’t need closets full of clothes, they need to feel attractive and they need excitement and variety and beauty. People don’t need electronic equipment; they need something worthwhile to do with their lives. People need identity, community, challenge, acknowledgement, love, and joy."

The perfect work life would offer enough challenge to be interesting. Enough ease to be enjoyable. Enough camaraderie to be nourishing. Enough solitude to be productive. Enough hours at work to get the job done. Enough leisure to feel refreshed. Enough contribution to feel needed. Enough silliness to have fun. And enough money to pay the bills . . . and then some. Even the best jobs have trade-offs.

“No shame, no blame” you’re confronting the truth of your spending habits, you can’t blame yourself for past purchases if you weren’t aware that you had poor spending habits.
It talked about breaking “food” down into different categories and suggested groceries be broken into “just me” and “serving others”… needless to say, I need to adopt that into my budgeting.

3 Sirens of Consumerism
1. Comfort
2. Control
3. Convenience
If you live for having it all, what you have is never enough.
Change seeks different solutions to intractable problems. Transformation asks different questions so that we can see the problems in a new light.

I think their career advice is suited for people without disabilities probably driven extroverted people who are externally motivated. I don’t know as an INFJ I can be only motivated by money. So I think the reality is more complex than what they say. The rest is good but I am more complex than that.

I have also realized that I can have a purpose for my life apart from work and making money. I can admit it’s a little soul sucking to be working really hard and be told you are mostly meeting expectations… I can be free to work with integrity on volunteer projects. This is a big step to admit that I want to work on being free.
