Starting over with audio! Good narrator, just have to pay attention because I suspect this book is smarter than me.

i wish this book was holding my attention but i'm so bored

I’m 50% through but I’ve stopped caring about the zealots. I’m about 10 minutes away from a DNF.

The pacing in this has been so weird. For a political intrigue plot in the middle of a sieged city, I haven't felt the tension. And, when it comes to the intrigue plot, it feels like we're never given a twist to keep it still tense, just an artificial prolonging of the plot by severing any plot thread that could provide even partial answers, making it feel clumsy.

How old are these characters? I like the organization of heirs in this little city and how women and men are treated. I wish there was a character guide though.

giving this a dual 1st person pov was a huge mistake, literally cannot tell who's speaking without going back to check the chapter header; i don't... care about this ultimately, putting it down for the 3rd and final time - this book has all the ingredients to make me fall in love but it's just not well-executed, if there's an attack on city gates and i'm yawning that's the book's fault not mine, a siege LOVER'S

3rd time's the charm? I'm kind of enjoying it now and we finally got to the good part. it's siege time! I'm excited but the characters are not going to be lmao
