THANKFULLY, as I had seen from the description of orphan X #8.5, she obviously stays around in some capacity and after obsessively searching for her name in the reviews of the books after this one, it does appear to become a leon-sherry type of thing so if that ends up actually being the case, well then, I clearly stay winning and I continue to get everything I wanted thank you Gregg :)

And finally: Do NOT piss my off with “They could never see each other again.” I cannot believe he wrote himself an excuse to leave Joey out of the rest of the series like some sam dryden bs. Especially because Mia appears like multiple times in each book for a few pages and you can easily have Joey come back like that to do hacker helper things. I wonder if hurwitz actually ever seriously considered no Joey :/

The ‘what would Jack do? He wouldn’t be in this situation so what would I do?’ scene was kinda delicious ngl.
Also…. “After you kill me, clamp this artery. Please.” LIKEEEE. THE PLEADING.

There are some real, incredible fucking gems in here that’s for sure. I am suspending reality but I am having a fucking blast.

At first I didn’t think Jack should have died so soon (we had just gotten him back!!) and I felt like we should have had more time with him. More opportunities for father-son angst, duh. But I made my peace with it. At least Evan didn’t have to kill him like with Sunder City, cause that wouldn’t feel right here. And I kinda came to enjoy how he haunted the narrative.

Evan blowing up at Mia, Candy redemption arc origin, team-up with Tommy, Van Scriver death, Joey breaking down and sobbing in his arms, Joey abandonment issues on display, choosing to save your newfound adopted daughter over avenging the death of your father, witty sibling shit-talk banter, the symbolism of names vs nicknames, a shoebox full of pre-written letters.
