The author (and MC bc it’s a memoir) is insufferable and as whiny as they come

this was a very bravely-written memoir , and it would have taken a lot of courage for al-marashi to be so candid and raw. i have nothing but respect for that. however, i have not come away from this novel believing for even a second that she likes her husband, let alone loves him.

This book single-handedly convinced to wait until after I have my degree to get married

I didn’t like the main character throughout most of this book, but she wrote the part about fighting stereotypes so well

There’s not a single likeable character

This girl is such a teenager (I’ve been 18 for 3 days)

Mama took the seat next to me on the sofa and let out a sad, slow tsk. “You kids always take everything we say so seriously. Parents say things to keep their children safe, to guide them to make the right choices, but I don't care about anything more than your well-being.”

as much as I appreciate how honest huda's being about her thoughts I admit some curiosity and pity for Hadi -- it can't feel good to know how poorly your wife viewed you in the lead up to your marriage or to know that any stranger can read about it

I am feeling incredibly affectionate because like. She is crying because Hadi gets Cs. The type A personality of Huda! Ya habibti, I promise you it's not that deep. :')
