This instantly takes me back to childhood and the traditions my family holds dear. The story aligns with my black heritage: traveling to grandparents’ house to play with my cousins while the older relatives cooked, joked, or played cards. Man. The joys of togetherness was expressed here & the hopefulness of continued fellowships for years to come was too. I enjoyed this read intended for youth but really for all.

A picture book celebrating African-American traditions when the families go south to see Granny on their annual visit.
A nice choice for younger children, and a good read in classrooms to honor Martin Luther Day.
I especially enjoyed the illustrations by Daniel Minter.
