Okay but TERF vibes here? If a “woman” joins an army, begs the emperor of Russia to be allowed to stay, requests to be referred to as he/him pronouns and wears men’s clothing until he dies… it feels really shitty to write - “He” was buried with military honors - mocking quotations around someone’s preferred pronouns.

Interesting chapter on mothers specifically- how endangering their children bring mothers into battle. More specially, women leaders fighting to protect their children’s right to their thrones…. Examining three women in particular.

;/ page 26 "King Herod of Palestine" Let's not allow current conflicts to cause us to rewrite and erase history. King Herod ruled over the kingdom of Judea, his rule ending at 4 BCE, approximately 140 years before the Romans would rename the area Palestine.

I love how the author tackles the sexist idea that 'if women were in charge, there would be no war' despite it being toted as a feminist theory. Already an excellent history that refuses to paint women warriors as 'good' or 'bad' for their entire sex.
