Some really excellent insight into the OT functions of oaths, but there’s an absolute disconnect between the exegesis of the OT and its relationship to the NT. It’s kind of assumed that the sacraments are oaths because they’re called ‘sacraments,’ and that’s the Latin word for ‘oath.’ It’s very circular. Maybe he will rectify this in future chapters?

Once again, Hahn is just a great communicator. I would like to see more about why the concept of the covenant sign necessitates transformative grace in the recipient. Why is it necessary that partaking in the Eucharist results in cleansing grace? Why does the physical sign confer spiritual benefit. Protestants agree that the person is changed by communion, but that the grace is not a function of the meal itself.
