So far this book is hard for new to get into. I need to see if it's the first that Carey wrote. Its her high fantasy Tolkien homage, but because of that the text is dense. And she really hammers certain things in. The beginning was more of info-dump and hard to get into. However, the more I read it the more I like it. The characters, the story, the Prophecy. Carey's homage is also her making the genre her own.
