Bro keeps judging the worth of learning about a culture based on its “civilisation” level bruh shut up I want to learn about a culture because of its intrinsic value and how fascinating and different it all is…

Had to jump back to the beginning, been a long time since I made any progress on this because I over-highlighted and took too many notes

To all my fans, I will finish this book over the summer
Already unlearning childhood false memories. Until now i thought Mesopotamia was just one city called Mesopotamia. Turns out the Sumerians are pretty cool. They invented beer and math , two of the best things in the world

Less than 100 pages left officially. This book just makes me excited to delve deeper into literally every topic in history, but its super brief - sometimes confusing - overviews cause it to become sloggish. These last few chapters are quite good though, maybe because I am much more familiar with the topics - but then that brief nature feels extra rough in comparison to more unfamiliar sections.

Looks like I will be finishing this on Friday, but most likely Saturday morning. I read some previous criticism on bias in the later sections, but honestly, it's been quite balanced, at least in a standard European-centric way - like it isn't dicksucking the USA or capitalism.

This book kind of just proved its point because the last chapter I just read is already very outdated.

Okay. My favourite period in history is immediately AFTER World War II.
We have finally reached modern times. My time with this book is coming to an end.

What a series of events. I think, this *may* become my favourite era in history. 1815-1918. The glorious period of European hegemony and the tragic collapse, which was only to led to more destruction.
Aesthetically and in terms of small picture history, I prefer medieval Europe by a lot; but in terms of political analysis and epic tragedies - nothing else compares.
Ah, but I love all history! It's so hard to decide!
