Status Updates From Green Eyes (The Shadow #13)

Well I just got to probably biggest surprise twist of the story. Only it wasn't a surprise, it was exactly what's been telegraphed and, ahem, fore-shadowed since about the halfway point. It's an entertaining enough story, but just barely, and it's starting to feel all too frequent that I see where these are going by halfway or earlier, and then it's just waiting for confirmation.

Half through, a parallel oddity, hinting at possible stupidity to come. Branch saw the shadow of a phantasmic figure shadowing him and refers to him as The Shadow, not cuz he's heard of him, he just guessed correctly. And Green Eyes is a clue given at outset, assumed to refer to a person, by Ch2 we know the object it actually refers to, yet the main villain, whoever he might be, is still referred to as Green Eyes.

44% in and The Shadow has only just sat down to figure out what the cryptic message at the center of this mystery really means. Not because it was so hard, not because he hadn't had the time to think about it. A man was killed, he left these final words, Shadow traveled to SF, spent days there, then solved it near the halfway point, cuz that's when Gibson wanted to present this less mysterious scene of him.
