Status Updates From When the Clock Struck in 1916

Perhaps the definitive soldiers' eye view of the 1916 Easter Rising as the authors have based this account on the surviving oral histories of the participants. Amazing stuff.

The most detailled moment by moment, location by location account I've read of 1916 in Dublin, and I've read almost all of them in the past several years.

Drawing heavily on the Oral History collection of original participants, this is a fascinating account of the Easter Rising, replete with great details for those of us who never get enough. Focus is on site by site and roughly chronological through the week. Great maps fix the details of each venue during the week and how they relate to each other.

The authors continue to offer an amazingly detailed account as we have now moved on to St Stephen's Green and the Royal College of Surgeons -

Still on the first day of the Rising, moving from location to another while showing how each interacted with the others as both Crown and Irish forces maneuvered, engaged, withdrew, and engaged again. The use of the eyewitness accounts offers terrific insight and perspective on what they thought was going on.

I picked this up recently at one of my favorite bookstores and have already started peeking into it before I intended because I've walked these streets and been to the various scenes of fighting in 1916
