Noble is deliberately ignoring parts of the dialogue examples when he explains and analyzes them, and he leans a little sexist in how he recounts the dialogue, too. It seems disingenuous to pass that off as genuine analysis when he doesn't dive into the whole of it. If anything this book is useful because you can faithfully argue where Noble is wrong, really dive into the dialogue passages with your own analysis.

Sometimes obvious (& long-winded) tips, but I'm enjoying the analysis. I'm mostly gonna take notes for updates?

note to self: Noble provides example exercises following each technique, for tension: "Try these: -anger in the midst of peaceful tolerance; -giddiness in the midst of unsmiling gravity; -unscrupulousness in the midst of trusting acceptance"

also pointing out "unsaid thought" as a powerful tool

Đọc vì viết xong cái first draft và nhận ra toàn bộ nhân vật mình viết đều có một giọng. Cuốn này có nhiều gợi ý hay ho, nhưng nhiều fluff quá, cứ viết dông dài ra. Sách hướng dẫn thì cụ thể rành mạch chút xíu coi ):((

Not sure if it is a typo missed by the editors, or just plain wrong, but I wasn't too impressed with the mention of Virginia Wolff...who is that?

So far I'm not terribly impressed with this book. Perhaps I have progressed beyond this point in my writing, Things seem rather obvious and the examples don't sit quite right with me. I found myself editing some. I think this would be a good book for someone starting out writing and does not read extensively, but if you've been at it a while and read a lot, you've probably figured out most of these things by now.
