Oh god this book! So far we're just meeting the characters signed on with the trafficker, learning why they're taking such risks. But the sense of foreboding is so heavy, like when talking about a giant of a man who could make himself small: "Seeing him with his back bent double, folded in on himself, with the air of someone apologizing for existing, it was obvious he'd already slipped into the skin of a refugee."
