Rereading for spooky season!!!

Funny. This book scared me to death as a kid. And I honestly didn’t recall any of the details until this re-read.

I read and loved this book when I was 9 and never forgot it. I reread it this week at 43 and found it still holds up. Loved it!

Vivid memories of reading this repeatedly in 5th grade came to me in a dream

I know this book was written in 1983 and ~things were different then~, but JESUS...the way adults (nevermind the kids) treat an autistic child IN THE FIRST 4 PAGES OF THE BOOK is shocking.

How nostalgic. Just love the set up and playing in the attic. Every day with Aunt Clare was exciting. The Dollhouse with dolls and silver piled high.

It has come to my attention when scanning this childhood fave’s barcode that not only have I read this recently, but I gave it 5 stars? I was pretty sure I hadn’t read this since 1995 so if that did happen I have completely blocked it from my memory. Anyway, Creepy Dollz 5Eva.

I heard about this Betty Ren Wright novel for years, not among the many I had picked-up before. It sure is a mature, suspenseful 'paranormal mystery', with the pleasures of a new best friend and visiting Aunt to lighten difficult things.

This book gripped me with fear in third grade and I’ve been chasing the feeling ever since

It's been ages since I read one of Aunt Betty Wren's books..

There are moments in this book that definitely didn't age well.

Glad to be done. A surprise twist but I wanted a more conclusive ending. I just wasn't a fan of this story or the characters.

I'm not enjoying the story. Some of hers are just too crazy and out-there and this is one of them. I'm also irritated with the family dynamic and wish things were different, like everything.

The story was terse and ugly. The Treloar's granddaughter Clare had discovered the body of Margaret Treloar in the parlor when she returned home after attending a motion picture with friends. Police were called, and they found James Treloar, fatally shot, on the bed in the couple's upstairs bedroom.

Damn! I wish I had read this in Junior High. Back then I was collecting books by Christopher Pike.
