How Orwell describes poverty, and the way people behave when they are poor, and the things they do to get through it is hilarious. There are a lot of subtle references to the class system, and such, I am not sure if he was taking a dig at the system then, or simply telling a story!

I really need to speed up and be done with this book!

به نظر من دلیل تداوم کارهای بیهوده، ترس از سرکشی توده ی مردم است. عقیده بر این است که توده ی مردم چنان جانوران پستی هستند که در صورت بیکار بودن خطرناک می شوند، پس باید طوری سرگرم و مشغول باشند که مجال تفکر‌ برایشان باقی نماند.

محلات و‌ مناطق فقیرنشین پاریس محل تجمع مردمان غیر عادی است_ کسانی که به گوشه انزوا افتاده اند، نیمه دیوانه اند و از کوشش برای این که دوباره اشخاصی عادی شده و زندگی شرافتمندانه ای داشته باشند دست شسته اند. فقر آنان را از قید موازین متعارف رفتار و اخلاق آسوده ساخته است، همان گونه که پول مردم را از رنج کار کردن رها می سازد.

I remember why I enjoy reading Orwell so much now; his style is incredibly accessible, but loses none of it's descriptive power.
