this is pretty good. am making my way through it slowly because i keep getting distracted and going off to google things mentioned

the most relatable person so far has been louis armstrong. he had an elaborate routine for both before and after he went on stage to perform and even though our actual habits are different i though, oh yeah, i'm the same with skating. there's a list of things to do before and after to make sure things go off without a hitch

the routines for writers are dull and mainly 'i start at this time/go for this long'

oh! joseph cornell... i never looked up his work until something in his profile made me think "what's a shadow box?" how have i never seen these before? they're stunning! i also loved that he's quite reclusive and did this all from the kitchen table of his mother's house in flushing, queens. ah! this book has been useful if only for this

this is getting a bit repetitive despite the fact it's varied with writers, painters, composers, analysts, etc...

it's all variations on "i work x-hours a day" (this could be 30 minutes could be hours) "starting at ____" (insert time) and "i eat_____" (or smoke, or drink)

this is not a the type of book to read cover to cover. it's one more where you look up your favourites to see what they do

a lot of these people have lives where they don't have to bother with day-to-day things like housework, there's servants or wives for that
