I loved all the art and book references.

And I love how it was never confirmed if she was indeed cheating with Hunter or not. Though I don’t think it’s important at this point. I feel so bad for her. I love the details where Castel contradicts himself e.g. saying that he’s not vain etc. when his whole obsession with María is because of the fact that she is like him. Much of his hatred and contempt towards her is just how he feels about himself.

state of mind were quite different. I love how intense it was. And how deeply ingrained we were inside of Castel’s mind. I love how absurd it was! The imagining and re-imagining of the meeting before it happened and the fight with the postal clerk to name a few. I also love María! And how ambiguous she was. I wonder if that was how she actually was or if it was just how Castel saw her (probably the latter)

I enjoyed reading this novel a lot! I’ll certainly read something else by the author in the near future. At first I found the protagonist, Juan Pablo Castel, to be quite relatable. But as the story progressed, and he became even more paranoid and demented, I would very much take that statement back. Chapter XXXVI was gorgeously written! I love the name of the book now.

I loved this chapter so much! The dream was so surreal! Yet it fits the narrator’s paranoia perfectly. I’m enjoying this book a lot.
