I never read the first edition, so I can’t compare, but I have been thoroughly impressed with this book. If you’re going to make any kind of curriculum introduction Christian theology and the Bible, this is a necessary text.

This is one of the deeper and more scholarly books I've ever read, but after the first two chapters it is eminently readable and so interesting and encouraging.

The Bible is the drama of this God of purpose engaged in the mission of achieving that purpose universally, embracing past, present and future, Israel and the nations,[…]and with its center,focus,climax, and completion in Jesus Christ. Mission is not just one of a list of things that the Bible happens to talk about,only a bit more urgently than some. Mission is,in that muchabused phrase,“what it’s all about”
