Too many Christians refer to their relationship as an "it" because they've reduced Christianity to a lifestyle. They've reduced their faith to a set of doctrines they believe. They've reduced their experience to a worldview that guides them in a general direction. And while none of this is bad on its own, it misses the point that we are in a love relationship with a him! In the original Greek, the word translated "lovely" is prosphiles (pronounced prahs-fil-ACE).
This word occurs only this one time in the New Testament. Initially, I thought the uniqueness of this word would make it difficult for me to understand its precise meaning. I didn't know how I was going to build a framework for thinking about "whatever is lovely" around a word that is used only once in the entire NT.
