Alright Latino friends (looking at South and Central Americans), this is a book you should read. Actually anyone that likes a good suspenseful story with crazies backstories connected to real life events, you’d probably enjoy this one too. Isabelle Allende is a Latin American author from Peru.

I didn’t really get into this book and stopped reading mid-way. A bit disappointing

Not Allende's best. It's so awkward in so many ways. Unbelievable, indefensible, and missable. Timely, yes, with its vivid depiction of Central American terror and the horrors of the escapees' journey, but the ends-justifying-the-means position is really too much too to believe.

Then this description of a "village" in Guatemala, sick and tired of authors describing Guatemala as a mosquito infested, chickens everywhere, hot and sweaty country. Come on! (2)

That's it, I'm just going to finish this book because I hate DNFs. First eye roll was when Allende wrote about how the Guatemalan girl didn't look Mayan. Please, as if there are no white, Asian, black or Caucasian looking people in that country. Not everyone in Guatemala is from Mayan descent. (1)

Having a hard time getting into this book. I'm thinking it might be the translation to English...who knows...so far I'm more involved in Richard's story than the female character....i don't remember her name ha!

It’s getting weirder, but it’s still great! I love Allendes inclusion of the history of gang violence, war, and immigration in and from Latin and South America.

las historias de vida de Lucìa, Richard y Evelyn me dan ganas de entrar en el libro y abrazarlos a cada uno. Emocionante en todos los sentidos. <3

this might be the first Allende book i actually enjoy that i tried by her so far?
Hopefully there will be no magical realism in it as i was promised that it certainly seems like a winner!

I'm a new fan although this is not the first novel by this authorthat ive enjoyed. Four stories seamlessly intertwined
