It definitely gotten better but, despite my love of seabirds, I cannot get into this. I am all for recognizing the intelligence of animals that appears in ways different than our own/what is seen in mammals, but this book is a bit too anthropomorphize and cherry-picking in its sources (referencing a survey that indicated a single bird doing the activity, for instance). Not for me but not a horrible book :D

Low-key don't like the writing style... I think I'm in some phase where more poetic nonfiction is just annoying me despite me liking it in the past. Not marking as DNF, I'll listen to more tomorrow, but something is bugging me.

Those birds are not married, and they cannot have affairs. It is quite literally impossible, unless they have a culture to which we aren’t privy, for a bird to “cheat” on their mate. I get the writing style is meant to be engaging for people who generally watch soap operas for entertainment, but wording absolutely drives cultural perception and I truly feel like this language does birds a disservice.
