Beating the Air: A strange little story, but I liked it. One of my favorite things about short fiction is that it allows authors to explore really weird ideas without needing to try to fit them into a whole book of plot.

My two favorites stories so far have been about the wind (“Beating the Air“ by Velko Miloev and “Three Tales of a Very Windy Town” by Lyubomir P. Nikolov). I'm not sure if that says something about Bulgaria, something about me, or both.

Definitely old school, like between 50's and 70's, very heavily influenced by the style of art popular in the country at the time. I love it for the window in time it gives us, and for the unique vision of the artist and the time which shaped it. Works with scale differential, high tonal contrast, and dukes of juxtaposition of soul and matter. Lovely! *** 4.50 ***
