Having a really hard time connecting with the story, you’re dropped right into a very climactic point in the Mulan movie and move on from there, but I don’t feel like it allowed for any building of a connection or a relationship between the reader and Mulan/ping.

This book was great an amazing finish. The middle somewhat lagged as it was just same long story in diyu. Would love a part two more into Shang and mulan, do they start a family? Does she become a general? So much could happen!

Got to read a bit on my break. I love how true this is to the characters.

Honestly? This one is my favorite in the series so far. Like I did enjoy As Old As Time, but this? This is on another level of good! Anyway, I’ll finish it tomorrow, just in time for my vacation!

There’s almost too much character self-reflection and inner monologue, but the action is great and I love learning more about Chinese folklore. (I at least assume the lore is correct.)

I’m liking that this book is completely different than the movie. The Beauty and the Beast book was just the movie in writing until the last 75 or so pages.

I’m going to have to learn more about Chinese Mythology after this cause this is awesome!

She's so close, yet so far... And Shang has faith in her despite all that she hid from him. Also, Ren, you are such a prick! Mulan and Shishi almost got killed because of you!

What's a journey through the Underworld without a few road bumps? And King Yama is not a man, or god, to be trifled with... for the price of failure is high. I'm a little surprised none of the spirits, demons or gods seem to realize Mulan's true identity... but they know something's suspicious.

Already a different departure from the first three books. I really like it!
