Loved that there were references to the original but in a way that suited this book

So far so good! Mulan is one of my favorite Disney movies so I really hope that I enjoy this book too! :)

I know I'm gushing about this book but this is so hard to put down.

This book is absolutely perfect so far and I just don’t want to go to sleep because I need to know EVERYTHING 🤩

It doesn't matter if I'm pretending to be Ping or if I'm Mulan. As long as I am true to myself, then my reflection will show who I really am.

I have to say, I did not know this book existed. All my friends and family can attest to the fact that I LOVE Mulan. The movie is my favorite of ALL FREAKING TIME! The storyline is also MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME. Now there’s a canon Disney book about Mulan?! Count me freaking in!! I bought it as soon as I saw it. Let the journey begin.

My expectations and hopes are VERY high.

I think what's throwing me off is that there's the assumption that you have seen the movie (which I understand), and the writing. I could imagine the world the author was trying to build but there's still something there that's stopping me from being invested in the narrative.

It starts with the attack of the Huns (where Mulan eventually causes an avalanche and save them all) and I’ve seen the movie so the setting shouldn’t be difficult to imagine. But it is. I think it’s because the sentence construction is too basic, or it seems detached? Something is not clicking with me and it’s just the beginning of the book.

So far this book is so much better than the first three. Does anybody else think it is a little weird that this book has a different author? Maybe that is what makes this book better.

Getting to learn a little bit about Mulan's ancestors down in the underworld of Diyu and they are certainly fishy....
