Status Updates From Reflection

I’ve been deathly ill. So, I’m taking advantage of my sick day and I’m going to finish this book. I am a bit behind schedule for my reading challenge and I have so many books I want to read in October. This one included.

I haven’t really been reading this because IT has been taking up SO MUCH of my time

“Her sword weighed heavily in her hand. She stared at the polished blade, wondering if its reflection would be the last sight she ever caught of herself.

“My father used to tell me about the ancient heroes who protected China against demons. How the gods gave them magical stones or lanterns or swords to help them on their quests. But even then, the heroes weren't invincible. They knew fear and loss, yet they fought anyway, because they knew it was the right thing to do. Because in their hearts, they were brave and true."

Loving this!

I want to enjoy it so much, but I’m struggling to. I love Mulan.

More than half of this has been novelizing the movie. Hoping it gets better

I like the mixture of the disney version and the chinese live action that's more based on the actual tale of mulan

I guess i forgot when i started reading this hahaha!

This books was so good I could barely put it down.

Darn, I started tearing up seeing General Li say goodbye to his son, Li Shang and feeling Mulan that her father would be so proud of her. Hit me right in the feels.

I have to say, Chapter Fourteen is the best. I liked hearing that Li Shang preferred a woman who was brave, smart and kind. Honestly this chapter made me love his character even more than I did thought out my life.

Even though part of the book doesn't follow the story we know, the other part of it does. I love that it starts out when Mulan fires the cannon. I like getting to hear her thoughts during that moment.

Chamber of mirrors

Okay, I'm really excited about this one you guys! I LOVE my MulanXShang ship since I was a kid. I hope this does it justice! lol

Elizabeth Lim hasnt quite captured these characters very well, the writing style can be a bit, .... for lack of a better word, childish. The editing in some places is a bit poor. I'm having a hard time getting immersed in the story but I believe it's because of the writing style. Don't get me wrong, simple writing styles are great too. Maybe I'm not the target audience?

So far it's okay. Not a big fan of the writing style.

Omg I am so exhausted that when I laid down on my bed to continue reading this I fell asleep mere pegs into it. Will have to continue later 😓

This book truly is delivering me the Mulan/Shang content I deserve. Plus I'm really enjoying the mythology of the book.

I don’t remember Mulan liking Shang that much in the movie. I know she honored him as her captain, but she keeps saying how much of a friend he is to her. Maybe she is just closer to him now because he’s dying because he sacrificed himself for her??? Still not 100% invested in this one although it is an interesting concept.
