"Ah, Canto Bight...the name of the place," said Glory La la bing bong "Never change you crazy terrible planet." *proceeds for the next fifty pages to say similar things and fail to do anything right* What can I say. these were made for a very quick cash grab during the mid-2010's. I think the one thing we can be grateful for is that none of these were written by Gen AI.

So this is almost certainly going to be a 2-3 star, but a friend got this for me in a five dollar bargain bin. I used to read these spin-off books as if they were some holy grail and would illuminate to me all the secrets of the sequel trilogy. Spoiler alert. the secret is they wanna make a lot of money.

Exactly the kind of book I love. Gives you fun new things (in this case characters) to look out for while rewatching the movie!

the third story was alright, but something about these is missing. i have high hopes for this last story though.

i'm gonna skip this wine story - i got a couple chapters in and i was so bored with it

so excited to see more of Canto Bight :)

Boring tbh

1. Kurzgeschichte durch. Viel besser als erwartet, dazu war es schön spannend.

Just finished the second short story "The Wine in Dreams" which was a fun dive into the thievery, trickery, and slight of hand of some of the denizens of Canto Bight. I read it and thought, yep, that's just like Vegas.

I never make reading updates until I finish a book, but I just gotta say that this one is torture.

3/4 done. This one was my favorite yet, 3.5 stars

Story 2/4 done: 3.5 stars. I liked it but it dragged on a bit too long

First of 4 novellas finished! 2.5 stars

So far I really enjoyed the first story compared to the second one even if I liked the writing style more for the second one. Definitely are not what I was expecting. Onto the next story :)

Ok I think all these “short stories” are coming together now? This book is strange

Not super into it honestly. So far it’s just a collection of short stories. The one I’m most recently on is good though. I will say it’s cool to see all the bs that goes on on the planet. Reminds me of Las Vegas lol

This is pretty gosh darn boring, not sure I'll stick with it.

I finally got around to reading another two of the stories, and they were better than the first. The second story is entertaining enough, but it's a once read, or else I'm very stupid. Half the momentum was wanting the eventual explanation and...there wasn't one. :\
The third story has some very bad fridge logic issues with its ending, but if we pretend those don't exist it was pretty good.

I keep forgetting how bad Star Wars short story books usually are. The first story was really cliche, but... I can't decide if the story was actually flat or if I was just so distracted by the author laughing up their sleeve at either Disney or the audience that I couldn't focus on it. (Or I'm seeing something that isn't there. No reviewers seem to have noticed it.)
That aside, I'm not much of a humor fan, anyway.

time to move on to the next short story as the wine of dreams is awful and I can't take any more of its nonsense.
