Status Updates From The Burden

Oh dear. This is a book that was not outlined. I rather think christie wrote about half and then had no idea what she wanted to do next.

So she came up with two new characters, and here we are, more than halfway through and I’m getting bored. Reading vague and pontificating conversations between two men I don’t much care about. Alas. And it started so well.

A trim neat little tale so far with just 4 characters
Feels rather predictable at the moment. A few nice lines in the mouth of old Mr Baldock

An abrupt ending and a whole lot of focus on men, but it was a nice read with some interesting themes.

This reminds me of A Daughter’s A Daughter even more, with shitty lovers and rebounds. A bit more dramatic here. Llewellyn’s POV is a strange shift. It’s way more dialogue heavy but with a lot of philosophy more than anything.

The first part was so heartbreaking? I think it hit somewhat close to home, though my experience wasn’t nearly as drastic. Still, the sentiments seeps through the words in a way that surprised me. I’m eager to read more. There’s a clear set up in the beginning of the first half, and it seems as though it’s following the same pattern as the storyline for A Daughter’s A Daughter by the same author.

شاهدت مقطعاً من فيلم يشرح فيه رجل عجوز لطفل أن أفضل لحظة قرائية هي تلك اللحظة التي تقرأ فيها عن فكرة، عاطفة كنت تظن أنها خاصة بك أنت وحدك، لتجدها مسطورة أمامك .. كتبها شخص لم تقابله، ستشعر وكأن يداً حانية امتدت وأمسكت بيدك.
أجاثا كريستي لا تفعل ذلك فحسب في روايات ويستماكوت، بل تعبّر بطريقة دافئة وعميقة، وتجعلك تتأمل وتفكر في دوافع مشاعرك وأفكارك. وهذا هو الأدب العظيم.
إنها كاتبة لن تتكرر.

الجميل في شخصيات الرواية إنها حقيقية لأبعد حد.
متعاطفة ومتفهمة لدوافعهم حتى لو كنت مش متفقة معاهم، ومحاولة كل واحد فيهم لاستكشاف ما يعتمل في نفسه ودوافعه اللي بتدفعه لتصرفات معينة، هي أشبه بمحاولة لحل لغز صعب. هنا تتقاطع روايات ويستماكوت التي ألفتها أجاثا كريستي بعيدا عن الجريمة مع رواياتها البوليسية الشهيرة.

لعل أجاثا أرادت أن تنبهنا أن السعادة مثل الأكل مهمة لا تقوم الحياة بدونها ولكن في الوقت نفسه ليست كل شيء كالأكل. وأن وجود نوع معين من السعادة التي نحتاجها ضروري لتحمل وتخطي المواقف الصعبة.
