This book has the most descriptively imaginative explanations of every detail. I'm not lost and confused anymore...well, I wasn't...but now I am again. It certainly has turns of phrases that make one think.

I'm impressed by how low of a rating this currently has here, 2.48! And there are tons of one star reviews. So far, I think it is pretty great (though I have hundreds of pages left). It has aspects of magical realism, and that might be frustrating to readers that were seeking a conventional romantic historical fiction novel, which might account for the strong negative response from a lot of reviewers here.
