Wie zu erwarten, ist eine bezaubernde Schönheit aufgetaucht, allerdings nicht in der Rolle als Prinzessin, sondern wohl eher eine Art Sklavin. Aber für den Fortgang der Erzählung dürfte der Unterschied nur marginal sein, Hauptsache, sie ist hübsch und kann vom Helden erobert oder gerettet werden. Einstweilen findet sie ihn hässlich, und auch der Apparat, der die Insektensprache hörbar machen soll, ist ein Fehlschlag.

Zu allen hanebüchenen Abenteuern, die der Held auf der Venus erlebt, steht sein sachlicher, fast emotionsloser Tonfall im Gegensatz. Schon der Berichterstatter der Rahmenerzählung wirkte trotz des aufsehenerregenden Funds des Manuskripts im Meteor fast unbeteiligt. Stilistisch ein riesiger Unterschied zur take-no-prisoners Attitude der Helden bei ERB.

Wenn alles a la ERB verläuft, müsste bald die Venus=Prinzessin auftauchen :)

Vor kurzem ist die Story als Comic veröffentlicht worden:



Das ist ein guter Anlass, den klassischen Pulp=Roman aus dem Regal zu ziehen und endlich zu lesen (zumal Matt dazu eine tolle Review geschrieben hat).
Pulps sollen nicht mit Innovation punkten, sondern mit den klassischen Zutaten, und das ist hier der Fall:
VENUS und RIESENAMEISEN!

(E.g., the protagonist learns the ant-people's written language in a matter of days and then is able to communicate about complex abstract ideas involving culture, biology, etc.)

He learns the local written language of the giant ant people in a few days, and all about their history, and oh there's a human-like species nearby as well... Beautiful and with little fairy wings... Of course the "girl" is repulsed when she meets him and promptly faints...

Hmm, rather dated and silly so far, but amusing enough to keep going for a while... We'll see. I'm reading the Project Gutenberg edition, but with the snazzy yellow cover inserted from another source.
