I needed to read a graphic novel for a reading challenge I'm doing this year. After some research, I selected this one because it sounded interesting and was different from what I read normally. It is the story of Christophe Andre's kidnapping while working for a humanitarian NGO in the Caucasus.

the design work on this book is impeccable. did someone really decide to make the book barcode stand in as a radiator? This illustrator is fabulous.

This book's got a damaged spine so I have to make one of those decisions about replacing it or not, but I've always been drawn to its linework and stark coloring and this is a good excuse to read it before I make a decision.

This character(doesn’t give us the name) gets kidnapped and so far has been kidnapped for 2 months. He’s been kidnapped since July 1st and he’s been overthinking a lot. He’s given up at the fact that no ones looking for him. He thinks everyone either left to Paris, went back home, or didn’t care enough to go look for him. The people that kidnapped him have him cuffed to a heater and gets 3 meals a day.

This is the sort of book you just have to experience and read. It’s such an insightful book.

One of the best graphic novels I have read, this one is purely a work of art.

Oddly riveting considering you are just as trapped as Christophe in this tiny room with the radiator, feeling just as lost and alone...

I could infer that he has given up now but not totally defeated yet.On pg.215 threw the comic he was imagining himself escaping. This proves that he still has hope of escaping.

And...that’s it! The endless construction sites, tracts ‘n tracts in Orange County in the late 60s- early 70s (the type you could ride your mustang bike to, crawl around (before “legal liability”) and only tetanus defined how many of those razor edged slugs (but we knew they were really coins of the realm - just hadn’t pinned down the realm...out there with Iraqi Dinars and Zimbabwe Dollars, i’m thinking).

Oh oh the SMELL of these pages. This only-read-once-before pages so..if only i knew what ink, what magic went into this particular process. Laying here trying to describe to myself what is it? What sweet assemblage of memory or imagination is this odour?

There's a lot of tension for nothing happening. I'm thinking the numbers for each chapter corresponds with the day.
