Started reading my first book of essays. Enjoyable so far. Hope this turns out to be a good book/author since I already bought, but have yet to read her previous book of essays "I was told there'd be Cake."

Some of these essays are interesting, but mostly I feel like she's a person who wants to be left alone, and the stories would benefit from some additional human interaction

This book is the first and so far the only thing I read from Sloane Crosley. Most essays are about what is happening in the author's life. That's already risky to write about. Strangers, like myself, will need something relatable or something really interesting/fun to make the reading experience fun. To me this essay collection didn't do that very well.

“Perhaps I can blame the disorientation on sleeping in a New England guesthouse. This is not my doily-covered bed. Those are not my porcelain bird figurines.”

Talking Heads “Once in a Lifetime” ear worm from the above quotation.

I watched cycle after cycle of America's Next Top Model and decided that the contestant who solves the "Tyra Mail" is the perfect level of smart. Go to great heights? I bet we're jumping out of an airplane, you guys! Any smarter than this and you become unhappy.

This is better than I hoped! (I don't really remember what I hoped, but probably not this good.) Sloane Crosley is not *as* funny as David Sedaris, but she's in the same league.

It started off funny, but the author is so incredibly unlikable and pretentious.

-I met a handicapped lady who is a bigger jerk than me.
-I live in a neighborhood around the corner from Sarah Jessica Parker where everyone has tons of money.
-I was on Gossip Girl and became friends with the cast (but that's not weird because I hang out with famous people regularly).

Who knows if I'll make it through this one.

“Once my body discovers it can do something—get a weird rash, have a sinus infection, eat an entire block of cheese in one sitting—it’s more liable to do that thing again.”

SAME, SLOANE, SAME.

The first time in awhile where I've had to convince myself to put a book down to get other stuff done. She's in the process of hiking a mountain and I've been cringe-reading because I'm pretty sure she's going to die.

This is the funny audiobook I need right now. The first short story captured me right away, simple but hysterical!

I love Sloane Crosley so, so much. This is already shaping up to be one of my favorite reads of the year.

Jared was quick to laugh, which would have been his best quality were it not for the laugh's resemblance to a hyena being choked to death by bubble wrap. His cackle was like one of those purposefully ugly sculptures, the kind of art that considers your irritation an accomplishment. Really, I can't say enough bad things about it.

I’ve been listening to the audiobook version of this and couldn’t decide if it was cheating by adding it to my currently *reading* pile. But then I thought, “Why not?”

Some of these are good and some seem to be too short to have any sort of meaning or to leave any sort of impression
