I love the rich symbolism in this Frieze (and other of Klimt’s paintings), behind each character portrayed.
“In episodic chapters, the Beethoven Frieze describes humanity's journey and struggle against adversity in its yearning for happiness with the eventual triumphant wish for fulfilment expressed in communal joy.” This explanation of this Frieze reminded me of Jane Eyre (which I am currently reading).

“One contemporary critic captured this dilemma of modernity as manifested in the Secession, simulraneously embracing and retreating from the temptations of urban life and the brave new world of consumer capitalism, the dazzling acceleration of transportation and communication and the ever-changing cycle of fashions (…)”

This is referring to the 1890s… sound familiar?
