I can't believe the library put this stupid YA novel in the adult section so that I would stumble upon it and actually believe that there might be smut in it, only to be sorely disappointed when Tanzer cuts straight to the morning-after following a description of a single kiss

"'The idea of witches' gardens being a treasure-trove of specifically women's knowledge is remarkable! You're right, we do dismiss the idea of 'old wives' tales' but there's so much prejudice in that statement! While today we go to a pharmacist, how many of their remedies are rooted - so to speak - in women's garden wisdom?" 🚬 ...girl is this 1890s England or no?

evadne, the reason everyone likes your sister more than you is because you're a deeply unpleasant person. just an absolute chore of a human being.

so here's the thing: thus far Evadne is a miserable buzzkill with a continent-sized chip on her shoulder, can I read Dorina's book instead.

This isn't as ... fun and witty as I expected. I guess I expected more whimsy and Oscar Wilde-style humor. Sure, there's some humor. The tension between the sisters makes me... tense. Of course, I'm reading it during this shit show year, so there's that.

This novel is inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray ( which I've read 18 times) and involves demons in late Victorian London. What a delight!
I'm thinking of querying the author's agent, but first I want to read this book.

The beginning was a rough start, i dont like or particularly dont think she (Evadne) is that interesting or maybe i have zero in common with her besides a tomboy style. Its taken a long time for me even be interested in the plot line. I realized that in terms of the Diabolical series, Molly has written the main in an opposition against diabolism. After i figured that out the book became a little more interesting

Didn't finish this one. So bored half way through that I gave up. Didn't care for either of the main characters, the sisters, Evadne and Dorinda. The demon aspect is just weird and not interesting to me at all. It hadn't advanced the storyline in any way by time I was sick of them all.

“Beauty is useless...but appreciating it is the highest calling we can answer.”
If this book is entirely philosophical banter ngl I’m perfectly ok with that.

The best part about the books set in the Victorian era is the manners....and the lack thereof ;-)

This was supposed to be one of my October books, but this gothic Victorian thing has gotten ahold of me, so Halloween is starting early this year.
What am I saying, Halloween is all year round with me.
