Status Updates From Obasan

Years ago, Obasan was the assigned text for my middle school English class. Now, I don't think most middle school students today could handle the concepts, message or the vocabulary laid out in this book.

And there's a bit of a tragedy there, that this book, meant for young people and with an important message, is now too hard for it to even be assigned.

It's been so long since I read this that I recall very little of the details. Likely because so much of it was told in the almost dreamlike cadence of a buried memory.

I did remember the account of CSA. But not the other extremely distressing details of detainment, racism and hate.
