“In L’Estranger, artistic truth was contrasted with, and placed above, forms of justice in society. In La Peste, artistic truth joins, through a basic human integrity, an ideal of social and political justice. But La Chute breaks up that marriage, artistic truth here reveals justice as a complex and self flattering illusion.”

The essay on The Plague was quite interesting, the essayist claims that, in an ironic twist, Camus’ purposefully or not, removed the native inhabitants of Oran and highlighted the French colonizers struggles of being trapped in occupied land. In the end of the novel the plague was reduced to dormancy and, ironically again, not long after the war ended, came back into fruition, leading to the Algerian revolution.

A pretty interesting write up about Camus’ beliefs and public opinion of him during the writing of The Stranger, The Plague and The Fall.
