He picked me up and stood me upright on my feet. I punched him in the neck.

I turned back to my father and saw the familiar winged shape behind him diving toward me.
“Can’t talk now. Grandma wants to see you.”
My father snarled, pointing his spear at me.

“I did ask her. She’s right here and now I’ll have to explain to her that Grandpa is evil and enslaves people. Good night.”
I hung up and looked at Julie.
She recoiled. “He isn’t my grandpa!”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure it’s more disconcerting to him than it is to you.”

He owned her and he had sealed his ownership with magic. I’d felt something similar before on people who were cursed. She was a slave.
No. She’s in my domain. You don’t get to keep this one. This one is now mine.
