I have started and re-started this book so many times. I love the writing style. I love the stories. I just forget I started it and start something else. This ends now. Let’s go, Mr. Herriot.

It strikes me there is no way a screenplay can include all the stories that make up a book like this. Film can’t handle so many. The screenwriter has to select. But with the book you can have them all. I think most readers would particularly like the “miracle stories” when the animals pull through despite the odds against them.

I cannot begin to express how much I am enjoying this classic tale. I will listen again and again.

The stories are as much about the people in Yorkshire as they are about the animals. It’s pretty interesting and entertaining. In the book, Siegfried is quite different than how he’s portrayed in the television series - he shrieks a lot more and lives by a double standard. Tristan! I could not work alongside Tristan.
I thought I’d get through all right till they had to put down a dog with cancer. Memories.

Love it. The descriptions of the Yorkshire landscape are wonderful. As always, there is far more detail than the two series that have been produced are able to bring into the production, fine as those series are.
This is an audiobook read by the actor who plays Herriot in the most recent TV version of the stories.

I’m reading this while watching the PBS Masterpiece adaptation. It’s wildly entertaining. Reading it has been so enjoyable and the show is remarkably similar to the book!

I think this is a collection of stories I'd actually rather see on TV than read, it's just not working for me.

Loved this book!! The stories and author's perspective are delightful. He has a way of pointing out the beauty found in good and hard work and in the people he meets. I picked it up after enjoying a few episodes of the current Masterpiece adaptation and I'm so glad I did!

Reading the paperback, which I don't often do because of time. So far I'm completely charmed.

I avoid most animal books as they tend to often be emotionally manipulative. It turns out that books written by kind, gentle veterinarians with a wicked sense of humor are clearly a home run for me. I can’t believe I waited this long, and for the rest of my life, I will try to read a little James Herriot each week to keep the world right on its axis
