This is THE book to read if you're interested in natural language semantics. It treats the dynamics of communication as integral to the study of semantics rather than as something external to it. The OLD way: we've got this sophisticated linguistics system with complex semantics and, oh, BTW, we can use it to communicate. The NEW was: because we can communicate, we CAN build this complicated linguistics system.
