I just finished the essay about booker t washington. I remember being in high school (where i was the only black student in my class) and our history teacher asked us to discuss whether we agreed more with booker t washington or WEB Du Bois and let me just say that i remember exactly who said what

page 93, “…the black folks say that only colored boys are sent to jail, and they not because they are guilty, but because the State needs criminals to eke out its income by their forced labor.”

This is still true today !!!

The freedom that was given after the world wasn’t truly free. Black ppl still didn’t have education, land or money to start them off. And the yt people weren’t going to give them a push to start either. Instead they were told, you aren’t worth shit, you are dangerous and you have no skills because of biology. All lies they told. Black people live under the veil. They can see both sides. But struggle to cross

It’s hard not to read Dubois without intense emotion. His writes in a kind of Shakespearean-like monologue. This book, like “The Souls of Black Folk, is really profound in its prose.
