Book I: Socrates presents the question of "what is justice?" amongst a group of friends and enemies. He begins to dismantle every argument while providing none of his own. He dismantles the legalist and traditional Greek definition of justice represented through Cephalus and Polemarchus and the Sophist definition represented through the character of Thrasymachus.
