The way this book clarifies every Nazi ideological stance, political position, and economic decision during the war in an intertwined and straightforward way, making argument based on trade offs and 'dialectical' (my wording) opposition within decision-making, is just enthralling. Tooze's writing can combine isolated set of statistics and figures with the most damning explanation of Nazi policy at the top level.

Unbelievably good. The Nazi war economy and armament plan barely worked, and was shocking haphazard. Fascinating to read how the Nazis in essence forced themselves to go to war asap because the balance of payments, raw materials, and long term strategic balance were all increasingly difficult challenges.
