Status Updates From Captive Hearts of Oz Vol. 1

Nick, the Tin Woodsman who doesn’t eat, is a surprisingly(?) good cook and Leon sure takes advantage of the free food!

Ku, the Tinsmith, wishes for Nick to travel with Dorothy to the Emerald City for a heart.


Also, Dorothy sees more than she should and Oz stops her before getting too far out of 'the story’.
Speaking of, the whole gang is together to travel to the Emerald City!

This chapter introduces the Tin Woodsman called Nicholas Chopper and Leon the Lion!
Also seen is the Tinsmith who created Nick’s body of tin.

There are so many hints to ‘the story’.
Locasta wants to change it however the man in the top hat, revealed to be Oz, will do anything to stop it from being changed.


To be honest, the main story is moving a bit too slow for me...

Surprisingly, we stayed near Hayward’s field for a little while longer.
We received a backstory (and a name) for Black and his sister, Kro.

It was a pretty sweet backstory. The present events were a little dramatic but I suppose, Black needed that push?

The end sees Toto running off to be met with the menacing figure of...The Tin Man!

More changes from the original story!

Dorothy does meet a Scarecrow named Hayward (get it?) but he protects his fields against a boy with wings named Black.

Also, Black’s sister (who is unnamed) steals Dorothy’s silver shoes!
The chapter ends with Dorothy and Hayward agreeing to work together to get her shoes back.

I’ve always loved Wizard of Oz so I’m a sucker for any sort of retelling.


I really like the art. The story itself was intriguing.
It began typically but soon turned into its own story with many questions already arising.

I can't wait for context for those final pages...
