Status Updates From The Fire by Night

Jo is in London doing service work for nurses collecting money for those in need when she goes to David’s families house (unknowingly). She gets to meet the family, is given a photo as a momento and kisses the brother. David is still missing in action

Kay is nearly dead when she is rescued. She makes a full recovery and is welcomed home by her community. Her mother is alive but brother and dad passed.

Jo has helped to heal all 6 of the men and is sacrificing her portion of food. She then gets a fever and becomes delirious, and the army guy saves her from a trip wire. The men nurse her back to health.

Her and David have a romantic bond. They kiss and he gives her his ring before the camp is packed up any everyone is taken safely to a hospital. David stays, alone.

Jo is still on the tent with a few army men waiting. She connects with the father with the abdominal wound. He tells her when they came down in their parachutes, they landed in the trees and all the men died.

Jo also patches up a German who wanders into the tent who touches her emotionally by thanking her with a kiss. She is devastated when the army men kill him and carry the Germans body past her.

Kay remembers being forced to abandon her injured lover as the Americans surrendered in one area after pearl harbour was bombed. Her lover died of an infection after being wounded by shrapnel.

From the tunnel she was captured and sent to an internment camp and the Japanese are starving people to death. Rats are eating people as there are too many bodies to bury.

The chapters bounce back and forth between 2 friends (nurses) that went to the war and is telling each of their experiences.

Kay in the tunnel but captured by the Japanese and is now in an encampment where people are starving to death.

Jo in the tent and lost all the other nurses and doctors. The 6 men that are wounded are at risk of being left behind as the corporal just wants to move out.
