The Big Black and White Game—is there anything Bradbury can’t write?! It’s astonishing to me how fully he can flesh out characters and themes in just a few pages… Big Poe and his team mates just leap off the page.

Embroidery—Yikes! Short, but packs a visceral and horrifying punch!

The Golden Kite, The Silver Wind—Such an interesting allegory for the Cold War!

The Murderer—well, I think I can confidently say, after reading this one, that Bradbury and I would have been extremely good friends… 😉

The Flying Machine—so tragic… 🪽🪓

Invisible Boy—so many overtones from The Emperor’s New Clothes! Raises so many interesting questions about the intersections between identity, decency/morality, inhibitions, self-restraint, and our human need for relationship.

The Fruit at the Bottom of the Bowl—😱😱😱

--Here There Be Tygers - a spaceship lands on a beautiful Earth-like planet, but the planet may be a living intelligence. Would it want people there, or not want people?
--The Strawberry Window - a family on Mars. The wife is homesick so the husband pays to have pieces of their old house shipped to Mars. Memory /modernization?
--The Dragon - a dragon, or a train?

The Wilderness—a thoughtful story on what it means to face the unknown, and what sort of agency we do and don’t have in the face of it.

The April Witch—What a curious, magical story! I spent most of the story waffling back and forth between who or what Cecy actually is, and whether she’s a metaphor or real!

Ummm…are we living in 2026 or Bradbury’s 2053?! Very unsettling, the parallels…
