Status Updates From The Illustrated Man

Finished "The Man"! After hearing of all the miracles done, Captain Hart believes the people are hiding the man somewhere on the planet. When the mayor denies this, Captain Hart shoots him. Captain Hart plans to spend his life traveling through space, hoping to finally catch up with the man, then bids farewell to Martin and the others, who are rewarded with the discovery that the man is still there. Great story!

As the crew is now concerned the "miracles" were all tricks done by Burton, a rocket-ship crash-lands on the planet. It's a badly-burned member of Burton's crew, who reveals that Burton and Ashley's rockets ended up in a space storm that killed the two captains and left only three survivors. That means Hart's rocket was the first one to land on the planet. So I guess the miracle man is real then.

Just started reading the fifth story, "The Man". Astronauts Captain Hart and Lieutenant Martin arrive on an alien planet, but their arrival is overshadowed by the recent arrival of a Christ-like figure who has performed miracles. There is no proof to this, and Hart thinks this was the work of a wicked rival, though the religious Martin believes the people and wants to stay on the religious planet. What's going on?
