This last scene reminds me of “The Incredible Journey”.
I guess this book would be great for Disney movie.

I like how the book tells how Berlin is ruined by the Allies, and not make it sound like “they deserved it”.
No one is 100% “good” in a war.

Now I feel bad for Wünsche.

I know this is a simple fiction, but I’m not enjoying how Sirius just “knows” what’s morally bad (being Nazi German) and morally good (being Jewish).

Story of a fictional famous dog and myriad of name drops with subtle (yet realistic) racism.

“Night and Day” by Cole Porter sung by Fred Astaire.
Name drops. SO. MANY. NAME DROPS.

Other than that, the summer is under the spell of the third movement of Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, op. 64.

Schiaparelli. Okay.

Being lonely is a tiring business.

It feels like a collection of flash fiction with the same characters in them.

Part one finished.
I don’t feel any attachment to any of the characters.
And the name drop is starting to feel annoying.
Maybe because it’s a translation, but the sentences feel detached and boring.
(I bought this book without knowing it was a translation. Otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it for this very reason. )

I’m not hating the book so far, but the name drop is kinda annoying:
Fritz Mahler and Werner Seelenbinder and many other that I didn’t catch, I’m guessing.
