Hobie leaned down and turned the hook so the point was rasping across the tape on Cheryl‘s mouth as her head jerked back and forth. Then he jabbed hard and forced the point through the silver. Sheryl froze. Hobie moved his arm, left and right, up and down. Pulled the hook back out. 🪝

The government is embarrassed about it. The truth is some of our boys were never released. The Vietnamese held on to them, like hostages, to get foreign aid and blackmail. The government held out for years, despite our boys still being prisoners over there. So they can't admit it. They hide it instead, and won't talk about it.

Almost finished. By the way, it turned out to be such a disappointment!

Things are getting interesting

Doesn’t feel like too interesting. Scenario changes are so abrupt, which is kind of irritating. Let's see what comes next. After all, I like the writing of Lee Child.

Lincoln, like the car?

Thank god, it’s entertaining again. Sigh of relief. When I started reading this I thought I might start reading more in the series, I no longer think that’s going to be the case… One is enough for now.

Oh no… it’s working the other way round, I started off really enjoying this book but right now it’s just a bit stale, the mystery seems solved so now we’re just trying to get to how jack is going to fix it but that’s a bit dull until he starts doing some cool stuff and stops looking at bones for pages and pages.

The American military is an incredible thing. Why/How did they lose Vietnam, I literally have a history GCSE on that topic but I couldn’t tell you,

How has Jodie turned from supposedly hot shot lawyer into law breaking thug in two days just because her teenage crush is back. FICTION.

2 things:

1. Look I love a ‘forbidden love story’ as much as the next guy but a 24 year old dude fancying a 15 year old is… a little off, I’m sure it happens, I just don’t know if I can fully root for it in a book like it’s fiction how about just make her 18. I get they’re all grown up now I dunno, just a lil weird.

2. I see why Tom Cruise doesn’t really fit as jack reacher. Tom is too small.

Who the fuck sells a house without of letting their parter know it might be happening - fictional behaviour.

Also but jarring how the paragraphs of two separate plots merge together, I get this is supposed to let you know they’re happening at the same time but just feels a bit weird and have to reread beginning of paragraph to figure out what’s going on. Could have done with a ‘***’ separator.

God this book is so easy to read I’m flying through it. Like a movie really.

He was folding himself around his door, out there in the slow traffic stream, walking up toward Reacher's window, glancing sideways at the tangle of sheet metal he passed. A woman was getting out of the sedan in front, looking dazed and angry. The traffic was snarling around them.

Yes enjoying this book much, sometimes feels like your just being fed information with not much nuance but it’s a welcome relief from some other recent reads full of metaphor and double meanings. Definitely nice and easy to read for a change.

Good book so far, pretty engaging. Do you know what’s really weird, the win towers being referred to with no reference to 9/11. I mean it’s such an obvious thing for a book published in 1999 but a little odd. Creepy even to have a meeting take place on the eighty eighth floor of the world trade centre.

He moved fast, darting the hook out and forcing it over the guy’s throat from behind. He stepped back and pulled with all his strength. The guy threw himself upward and backward, his fingers scrabbling under the cold metal to relieve the gagging pressure.

An elbow moving fast ahead of 250 body weight does a lot of damage.

Reacher looked away. Stared out at the unfocused shape of the West Point buildings, gray in the haze. He was numb. He was in that age zone where people he knew died. His father was dead, his mother was dead, His brother was dead. Now the nearest thing to a substitute relative was dead, too.

My octogenarian neighbor gave me this book years ago, so over the weekend I decided to start reading it.

Just another fictional character like James Bond and Jason Bourne.

That day had been D-Day. D stood for downsizing.
